Frequently Asked Questions

Q: WHAT IS DEBTWATCHER?
A: DebtWatcher is a comprehensive database of businesses that have had past due accounts turned over to third party collection agencies.

Q: WHERE DOES THE DATA COME FROM?
A: The experiences are reported to DebtWatcher by the nations leading collection agencies that partner with DebtWatcher.

Q: HOW OFTEN IS THE DATA UPDATED?
A: All partnering agencies are required to report current and updated data on all open and closed accounts at least once per month.

Q: HOW WILL I KEEP MY CLIENT INFORMATION PRIVATE?
A: Your client information [the creditor], is NOT reported to DebtWatcher. You will never have to worry that any of the partnering agencies or end users will see creditor names. Only your agency identification/claim number is reported with each experience listed in the DebtWatcher database.

Q: IS THERE ANY SPECIAL SOFTWARE THAT I WILL HAVE TO BUY?
A: No, DebtWatcher is a secure, web-based product. The only piece of equipment you will need is a computer or laptop with internet access.

Q: WHAT IS THE POTENTIAL LEGAL RISK WHEN I SUPPLY MY DATA TO DEBTWATCHER?
A: DebtWatcher operates within the constraints and spirit of the Fair Credit Reporting Act [FCRA]. We ask that your agency not report any experiences until you have had the account in your office for more than 30 days. This should provide sufficient time to identify items that may have been referred to your agency in error, and hence, should not be included in the DebtWatcher database. Your agency agrees to investigate and either confirm or remove experiences that may be questioned by the debtor.
